radio silence

I just wanted to provide a little personal update. I haven’t been posting as consistently as I was at first- it’s because my laptop screen is broken, so I don’t have a personal computer to work off. I do what I can from public computers, but I am not able to post as often. I’m trying to still provide fresh and quality content so thank you for your patience!

made: ombré bottles

ever since I moved into my house, I’ve been collecting succulents and pots to decorate my mantle (inspired by this picture, taken at the ojai rancho inn). unfortunately I still don’t really have enough to make it work, plus the mantle in my house doesn’t get enough light for most of my plants. so I’ve mounted some glass shelves in a south facing window and moved them all to there. now I don’t have anything on my mantle other than a couple pictures, so I found this tutorial to use up all my extra bottles in a pretty way. I’m still collecting, but so far I love them, and at some point I’d like to add some fake flowers (real ones are too expensive for how long they last!), a different kind for every season.

painting the bottles is easy. just spray a coat or two of your base color over the whole bottle, and flip it upside down. next angle your second color towards the base of the bottle and adjust for any problematic ridges. check out the linked tutorial for more thorough instructions.

this was just a short stop my boyfriend and I made today. the weather was unbelievably gorgeous and we couldn’t resist all the greenery. now I may or may not have some new little friends to plant!

leaf tunnel

I chose this set of pictures to honor how glorious this weather has been in my area this week. it seems like summer is finally here, just in time for my birthday on friday. the beautiful home belongs to jennifer harrison-ciacchi who owns a construction company with her husband. her house is beautiful and I love the eclectic mixture of patterns and materials that all somehow fit together cohesively. the picture links to design sponge which has all the pictures of their home. the dirt road image is off of tumblr and I don’t know who the photographer is, but it’s beautiful. I’d love to take a hike there on a sunny april day.

fig tree

as an early birthday present, I got something I’ve been wanting for a while now- a baby fig tree! it’s the perfect size and I’m really excited to care for it (really manifesting its health and longevity… haha). its new home will be underneath my south facing window, behind my couch, and I’m planning to make this plant stand for it… or this one. I’ve got to make the hard decision about which one would stand up to curious kitties the best. I did some research before deciding that I’d try my hand at fig-tree-raising, and found these links helpful- apartment therapy, gardenista. my house is pretty dry (gas fireplace heat sucks the moisture out of everything!) so I’m considering getting a small humidifier to keep near it- maybe that’s crazy, I have’t decided yet. anyways, once I get it home I’ll post about my new glass shelves (for my succulents) and where Figus, as the tree has been christened, will be living. stay tuned.
